The Mobile Range Combat Training Exercise for this trimester will be slightly different from last year.  The course of fire has been changed to modify when the targets turn and the number of times the targets are at a simulated 10 yard and 15 yard shooting distance.

Your personnel must shoot the exercise with the weapon they carry on duty, and must draw from the holster that they carry on duty at the start of course.  They must bring at least 2 magazines with them to shoot the course (3 magazines required if capacity is less than 10 rounds).

The course of fire (10 shots total) still requires the shooter to fire two shots every time the target faces them.  The target is the same as last year, and will be scored the same (missed shots = negative points due to potential collateral damage).  At the end of the course, the shooter must reload their pistol (using an empty magazine) and cover the target.

This trimester's exercise requires each person to shoot the course of fire TWICE.  The Mobile Range Operator will score each course of fire and record BOTH course scores onto the shooter's range Scantron card.

Armed personnel who cannot shoot a best score of 80 or higher on one of the exercise's first two courses of fire MUST REPEAT THE TRAINING EXERCISE by shooting another 2 courses of fire to augment their training.  The combat exercise is training and is NOT pass / fail, so personnel who cannot achieve a best course score of 80 or more after shooting the four courses of fire HAVE MET THEIR SHOOTING REQUIREMENT for this trimester.

Note: Over 3/4 of all shooters during last trimester of 2007 scored 80 or higher on that combat exercise.

All course of fire scores will be captured on range Scantron cards for data collection purposes to judge the effectiveness of the training.

Your personnel must shoot during their assigned month (unless directed otherwise in writing by their Unit Commander) with their on-duty weapon to meet their shooting policy requirement for this trimester.

Please remind your personnel that they can shoot the combat exercise or the qualification course at any range on any day with any of their authorized weapons for additional practice -- but doing so does NOT meet the shooting requirement.

Armed personnel who failed to shoot qualification during the 1st trimester of 2008 MUST also shoot and pass a qualification course ASAP with the gun(s) they intend to carry this year.   [refer to FAILURE TO SHOOT policy MPP 3-01/050.73]
