Department policy states that in order to carry any
other gun besides the duty weapon a four hour off-duty weapons class must be
attended and passed first. In addition, if the weapon is carried, the deputy
needs to qualify with the weapon at least once each trimester. If the weapon is
not carried, then the weapon must be qualified with once each year to prevent
re-taking the off-duty class. All authorized Off Duty handguns may be carried On
Duty in a Back-Up weapon capacity.
