Laser Grip Pistol Frequent Questions
Are any
other laser sights approved?
No. Crimson Trace is the only approved
product at this time.
Does
Crimson Trace make a laser grip for any other Department approved handguns?
No. When new types of grips become available, they will be subject to
testing and approval from the Range Master. We will update any information
regarding other approved laser sight systems as they become
available.
Are
laser grips available to fit the Beretta Compact?
No. Only the full-sized
Beretta 92FS pistol.
How does
the laser sight activate? Can I turn it off if needed?
The Beretta 92FS
grips have an activation button on either grip panel. It is activated when you
obtain a shooting grip, either right or left handed. The revolver grips have an
activation button behind the triggerguard, and can also be activated by
obtaining a shooting grip, right or left handed. The grips have a master
"on/off" switch that is easy to operate.
How big
are the grips and will they fit my holster?
The grips are almost the same
size as the standard factory grips. They fit the standard duty holster, but some
left handed holster may need slight adjustment by weapons training staff to
confirm proper fit.
When the
grips break or wear out, how can I get it fixed?
Contact Weapons Training
regarding grips that become broken or worn out. There are a limited number of
LG-302 (Beretta 92FS) grips available as "loaners" if your grips need to be
serviced by weapons training staff. Crimson Trace offers a full three year
warranty on all components and workmanship.
Where
can I purchase batteries to power the laser grip?
The batteries used in
the Crimson Trace product are commonly available camera type batteries. Two
#2032 Lithium batteries are provided with each grip set. The batteries provide
approximately four hours of constant "on" time. Most retail stores carry them on
a regular basis.
Who
sells the laser grips?
These laser grips are available from a variety of
law enforcement supply, sporting goods and specialty stores.
Can the laser grip be knocked out of adjustment easily?
The
laser grip is preset at the factory, but it can also be adjusted by the user.
The adjustment screws are very small and can be lost or damaged if moved
improperly. Weapons Training can evaluate your grips and make any required
adjustments if needed. Sight alignment should be confirmed after replacing
batteries.
If the
laser grips fail to work, will my gun still work?
Since the Crimson Trace
product is mounted to the outside of the handgun, it does not effect the normal
operation of the weapon. If the laser grip does not work, simply use your iron
sights.
Can the
laser beam be harmful to the eyes?
The Crimson Trace laser is the
brightest beam allowed by the Food and Drug Administration. It is classified as
"Eye Safe" for momentary exposure. The human eye has a natural blink reflex when
subjected to strong light. Just like a strong flashlight, it is possible that
eye damage could occur if someone stares directly into the laser
beam.
How do I
get the training class to carry the laser grip? What do I need?
Classes
are scheduled through Biscailuz Center Range. Teletype information broadcasts
are routinely issued to inform personnel of anticipated dates and times. It is
suggested that you purchase an approved laser grip for your weapon prior to
attending the class. The phone number to Biscailuz Center is (323)
267-2730.
Purchase a set of approved laser grips for your handgun. Bring
a minimum of 130 rounds of approved non-toxic ammunition, duty belt, firearm
with several magazines or speedloaders, the laser grips as well as eye and ear
protection.
